King Aedryn is dead, slain in the night by an unknown assassain. His daughter and wife are interrogated heavily before released. The Sun Princess, as she is known by her people and family, retreats to her rooms for three days, taking neither food nor sleep. When she emerges for her coronation, she is no longer the Sun Princess but an ice queen.




On Midwinter Night, as the festivities reach their peak, the Vale rips. Known only as a glassy barrier which the gods reside behind, the people feel its destruction in strange ways: nausea, pain, aburpt changes in their features.

But everyone knows something is wrong...




The queen is uncertain, young, and inexperienced. Her people are not content with her personal life and her court is hovering, ready to take her crown whenever able. Whether through a ring or a sword, they are poised to bring about a new dynasty...

In the streets, Medrina faces uncertainty as a few people find themselves being able to do things they weren't able to do before. Women give birth to half monster, half child in the wake of the Vale's destruction. With the religion crumbling, the people are questioning all that has ever happened within Medrina's borders: it's monarchy, it's Temple, and it's nobility.

Meanwhile, a court across the sea faces Medrina and plots its death...
